Airdrie United are something of a phoenix club having inherited the club colours (and stadium) from the now defunct Airdrieonians . They also inherited half of the clubs players back in 2002 when the names etc switched over. Rather than reapplying for league membership the new Airdrie Utd simply took the place of Clydebank who had also sadly gone out of business. Airdrie Utd are like their predecessors known as the Diamonds after the red diamond around the neck of the shirt. The badge of the new club is in fairness a bit more exotic than the old Airdrieonians badge although the two headed eagle looks a bit out of place in one of Lanarkshire's less fashionable towns.
