When I was a lad despite being a St Mirren fan I always had an inexplicable soft spot for Dundee United. Back then they were a good team and had runs in European competition and consistently got pumped in the Scottish Cup final by whoever they happened to be playing that year. They lost so many cup finals in the 1980s that it became funny. This shirt comes from well after that when the Arabs, for that is one of their two nicknames, had even had a spell in the second tier of Scottish football. I'm not entirely sure what the reference to centenary is on this shirt as the club was formed in 1909 (as Dundee Hibernian). While I remember the story goes that the club picked up the nickname Arabs when in they were renowned for using too much sand on their Tannadice pitch.
