I for one had never even heard of Chechenya until recent unpleasantness broke out there. Depressingly these problems were so persistent and serious that until the late 2000s Terek couldn't even play in the city of Grozny. The shirt is another example of Umbro's good work in Eastern Europe, even if it does look a little like a Republic of Ireland away shirt. As far as I know from my very basic knowledge of Russian "Grozny" means "terrible" in Russian. It's strange to think of a city called "Terrible", unless that city is Liverpool or Dundee. For the record, Terek is a fairly major river in the Northern Caucasus. I am yet again indebted to Russian collector Anton whose own collection is well worth a little of your time (www.soccer-collection.narod.ru).
